Mistral has announced the launch of Large 2, which they claim to be on par with the latest cutting-edge models from OpenAI and Meta regarding code generation, mathematics, and reasoning. Large 2 has a token window of 128,000 and supports multiple languages such as English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, Hindi, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, along with 80 coding languages. Llama 3.1 has a higher context window of 128,000 tokens compared to the 8,000 token limit of its predecessor. Meta claims Llama models have been downloaded over 300 million times, and more than 20,000 Llama-derived models have been created so far.

Cohere raises $500 million

Toronto-based startup Cohere has raised $500 million in series D, raising its total valuation to $5.5. billion. Unlike other AI companies that build large AI models, Cohere is focused on enterprise use cases and helping companies run more efficiently with AI. In March 2024, Cohere generated $35 million in annual revenue, up from $13 million at the end of 2023. The company plans to double its headcount from 250 to around 2500 employees this year.
